Do you ever have a hard time asking for help and receiving support when it’s offered? 🙋♀️
Many women (including myself) have been taught that doing it all alone is the ultimate badge of strength and honor, especially when it comes to proving our value and worth.
Since entering the workforce, many of us are juggling careers, relationships, family, and personal growth while convincing ourselves that asking for help is a sign of weakness.
But here’s the truth…
Learning how to ask for help and receive support are two of the most powerful acts of self-rescue you can practice.
In fact, self-rescue isn’t about going solo—it’s about recognizing your limits, honoring your energy, and intentionally reaching out when you need it.
Asking for help shows courage and receiving support shows wisdom!
Together, they allow you to manage your life with greater clarity, focus, and resilience in a way that helps you feel more deeply supported in all that you do.
The biggest challenge?
Women often feel guilty about leaning on others, worrying they’ll be a burden but guess what…
No one can carry every responsibility alone.
I know, because my personality and ego patterns had me trying to do just that for years!
Ultimately, trying to do it all on my own is what led me into the burnout that ended a 13 ½ year over-achieving, corporate career and an unsupportive marriage.
Receiving support isn’t selfish—it’s strategic and crucial for our health and well-being. 💕
It protects your energy, nurtures your growth and it strengthens the bonds that make life sustainable and joyful.
Imagine…
Self-rescue is the equivalent to an orchestra rather than a solo performance.
You can play your part beautifully, but when others play alongside you, the music becomes richer, more vibrant, and more sustainable.
Eliciting the help of friends, family, mentors, and coaches—helps you build a strong support system so you can rest when needed and show up as your best self. ✨
If asking for help or receiving support is sometimes a challenge for you, here are a few ways to practice this superpower:
- Ask for help without guilt. Reach out, delegate, hire, or simply share your needs.
- Receive support fully. Let others contribute without apology or hesitation.
- Invest in your community. Build relationships where support flows both ways.
And to support you in becoming more skilled with all of the above, ask yourself the following self-reflection questions:
- In what areas of your life are you trying to do it all alone?
- Who could you ask for help, and where could you allow yourself to truly receive support?
Remember, you don’t have to do it alone. 🚶♀️
