What Are You Carrying That Isn’t Yours?

What Are You Carrying That Isn’t Yours?

Over the past two months, we’ve been exploring the art of receiving—and why receiving can feel so uncomfortable for women who have spent years being the ones who give, manage, anticipate, and take care of everything.

But there’s another question worth asking:

What if the reason you’re unable to receive is because you’re carrying too much? 🧺

Not just too much on your calendar.

Too much responsibility.

Too much emotional labor.

Too many decisions that need to be made.

Too many things you’re convinced you should handle yourself.

And sometimes, the hardest thing to put down isn’t all the things on your to-do list. ☑️

It’s a deeper core belief that:

You are the one who has to carry it all.

Maybe because…

You’re solving a problem someone else could solve.
You’re managing someone else’s emotions.
You’re taking responsibility for how everyone else feels.
You’re doing something simply because you’re afraid it won’t get done “right” if you don’t do it yourself.

Or, maybe you’ve become so accustomed to being the capable and responsible one that you’ve stopped questioning whether something is actually yours to carry.

This is where self-abandonment can become incredibly subtle. 😰

And, we don’t always abandon ourselves by saying yes when we want to say no.

Sometimes we just abandon ourselves by continually saying:

I’ll handle it.

I’ll take care of it.

It’s easier if I just do it myself.

They need me.

But what happens when you stop?

What becomes available when you aren’t spending all of your energy managing, fixing, and carrying?

Space.

And in that space that we create for ourselves is where receiving truly becomes possible. ✨

Your Practice for This Week

Here’s your invitation for self-reflection this week:

Where in your life are you carrying more than is actually yours to carry?

Choose one thing that you’ve been doing, managing, or carrying that isn’t truly yours and then ask yourself the following questions:

What would happen if I stopped carrying this?

What are all the possible ways I could stop carrying this?

You don’t necessarily have to stop carrying or drop this one thing altogether.  It’s simply a few questions to get you thinking about how to stop carrying what’s no longer yours to carry.

For example, you might delegate it. Ask for help. Set a boundary. Let someone else figure it out. Or simply decide that it no longer needs to be done or is no longer yours to carry.

Once you’ve made a decision on how to handle this thing, notice what happens inside you.

Any discomfort that arises is information.

You may actually discover that doing less isn’t actually the hard part…

It’s trusting yourself not to keep over-committing.

And trusting that you are still worthy, responsible, loving, or valuable when you’re not giving all of your time and energy away.

This is where the real work lies and is what leads to the deeper invitation of receiving, which is:

Not simply to let someone give you something… but to stop giving so much of yourself away that there’s nothing left to receive. 👐

So as we close out our exploration on receiving, I want to invite you to consider, which is:

What one thing are you willing to stop doing, controlling, or managing so you can create more room to receive?

Because sometimes the most powerful act of self-rescue isn’t adding something new to your life or your plate.

It’s about finally putting something down to make room for you. 💕

As a reminder, I have two invitations to help you receive this week and beyond.
