What if the guilt you feel when receiving isn’t about receiving at all—but about what you’ve learned to believe you must do to be worthy?
If you’re like most high-capacity woman, chances are you’re really good at giving the following:
Your time. Your energy. Your attention. Your expertise. Your care.
But when someone offers to help you, compliments you, takes something off your plate, or simply wants to give something to you, do you find it difficult to receive?
If so, that resistance you’re feeling might come with an unexpected feeling:
Guilt.
You might even think to yourself one or more of the following…
I don’t want to impose.
I should be able to do this myself.
I can do it better than they can.
They’ve already done enough for me.
I need to give something back.
But what if the real reason receiving feels uncomfortable has very little to do with receiving?
What if it’s because receiving challenges the identity you’ve spent years building? 😳
The identity of the woman who is:
Capable. Responsible. Independent. Needed. Indispensable.
When you’re accustomed to being the one who gives, solves, carries, anticipates, and takes care of things, receiving is a state of being that can make you feel vulnerable.
It asks you to let go of control.
To admit you have needs.
To allow someone else to contribute.
And perhaps most importantly, it requires you to face the possibility that you don’t have to earn the care and support of others by always being useful.
That’s where the guilt comes in.
Because somewhere along the way, you may have learned that your value is measured by what you give—not by your inherent worth.
A Simple Experiment:
The next time someone offers you something—a compliment, help, a gift, their time—notice your first impulse.
Do you minimize it? Refuse it? Explain why you don’t need it? Immediately look for a way to reciprocate?
Instead, try this:
Pause. Breathe. And simply say, “Thank you. I receive that.” 🙏
Then notice what happens inside you.
If discomfort arises, there’s no need to fix it.
Just practice allowing yourself to receive without offering something in return.
Why?
Because learning how to receive with grace isn’t weakness.
It isn’t selfishness.
And it doesn’t make you less capable.
In fact, receiving is one of the ways you begin to let yourself matter, too. 💫
And if you really want to stretch outside yourself comfort zone when it comes to receiving, that’s exactly what you’ll get to explore for 4 glorious days and nights at my Radical Wholeness Retreat the first weekend inDecember.
This isn’t a retreat about fixing yourself or becoming a better version of yourself.
It’s about coming home to the parts of yourself you’ve learned to override, silence, or abandon—and creating the space to receive more fully, in the following ways:
From yourself. From others. From life itself.
If you’re ready to stop being the woman who can carry everything and become the woman who can finally let herself be supported, I’d love to have you there with me.
Come practice receiving.
Come practice choosing yourself.
Come home to Radical Wholeness.
Flexible payment plans are available PLUS there’s a priority registration bonus of 3 x private self-rescue support sessions after the retreat is included if you register by September 30.
Make the decision to join us at Joyful Journey Hot Springs & Spa in December for an experience that’s guaranteed to change your relationship with yourself and how much you’re able to give and receive.
In gratitude…
