Do you know any high-capacity women with a lot of responsibility on their plate?
A high-capacity woman is a woman with an exceptional ability to carry, manage, create, lead, endure, and perform at a high level—often while simultaneously supporting the needs, emotions, and responsibilities of others.
If this is you or someone in your life, here’s what I want you to know…
Many women in our performance-based culture have been taught that being responsible means always being available, always pushing through, and always putting other people’s needs ahead of their own.
But here’s a hard honest truth that I really want you to face…
Responsibility and self-sacrifice are not the same thing.
Responsibility is healthy.
Self-sacrifice is what happens when you consistently abandon yourself in order to take care of everything and everyone else.
The tricky part is that self-sacrifice is often praised.
People call you dependable.
Strong.
Selfless.
Hardworking.
And because of that, many women never stop to ask an important question:
What is this costing me? 😥
Responsibility says:
I will take ownership of what is mine to carry.
Self-sacrifice says:
I will carry everything, even if it hurts me.
Responsibility allows room for your needs, limits, health, and humanity.
Self-sacrifice convinces you that your worth comes from how much you can endure, manage, fix, or give away.
And over time, self-sacrifice creates exhaustion that rest alone cannot fix.
Because the real problem isn’t just how much you’re doing.
It’s how often you are abandoning yourself while doing it, which can show up in a variety of ways:
- saying yes when you want to say no
- pushing through exhaustion
- ignoring your emotions
- feeling guilty for resting
- believing your needs are less important
- taking responsibility for other people’s emotions or choices
Many high-capacity women often don’t even realize they’ve crossed the line from responsibility into self-sacrifice because the behavior has become the norm in a culture that rewards them when they give themselves up for the sake of success.
Self-sacrifice may even feel productive.
But constantly overriding yourself has a cost.
Eventually, your body feels it.
Your relationships feel it.
Your joy disappears.
Your resentment grows.
And you begin to feel disconnected from yourself.
Coming home to yourself means learning to be loving, responsible and supportive without abandoning yourself. ❣️
Loving without over-giving.
Responsible without over-carrying.
Supportive without self-erasing.
Doesn’t coming to yourself sound amazing?
If so, here are a few questions you can ask yourself to see how all of this might be showing up for you.
Self-Reflection Practice
Take a few quiet minutes and ask yourself the following:
- Where in my life am I carrying more than is actually mine to carry?
- What do I fear might happen if I stop over-functioning or over-giving?
- Do I believe I have worth even when I am resting, receiving, or saying no?
Answering these questions will increase your awareness, which is where REAL change begins.
Not because the goal is to stop caring but because the goal is to stop disappearing in the process.
If you’ve been disappearing in your own life or feeling disconnected from yourself, I want to invite you to face, feel and deal with now rather than later.
I’m offering another FREE opportunity this month to discuss the questions above with other amazing high-capacity women during my monthly online Wisdom Circle happening on Wednesday, 6/17 at 12 pm MT inside my Brave-Hearted Sisterhood
